FIELD: organic chemistry, chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to synthesis of acetic acid by oxidation of hydrocarbons. Method is performed by interaction of ethane, ethylene or their mixtures in the gaseous state and also oxygen at increased temperature and under pressure. Gaseous mixture contacts with a catalyst that comprises the following elements in oxide form: MoaPdbRecXdYe being X and Y have the following values: X is Cr, Mn, Nb, B, Ta, Ti and/or W; Y is Bi, Ce, Co, Cu, Te, Fe, Li, K, Na, Rb, Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ni, P, Pb, Sb, Si, Sn, Tl and/or U; indices a, b, c, d and e mean gram-atom ratios of corresponding elements being a = 1; b > 0; c > 0; d = 0.05-2; e = 0-3.
