FIELD: oxidation catalysts. SUBSTANCE: invention concerns catalytic composition, which, in combination with oxygen, includes elements: MoaWbAgcIrdXeYf, where X denotes Nb or V; Y denotes one or several elements selected from group including Cr, Mn, Ta, Ti, B, Al, Ga, In, Pt, Zn, Cd, Bi, Ce, Co, Rh, Cu, Au, Fe, Ru, Os, K, Rb, Contains. Mg. Ca. Sr. Ba. Zr. Hf, Ni, P, Pb, Sb, Si, Sn, Tl, U, Re, and Pd; a, b, c, d, e, and f indicate such g- atomic ratios of elements, for which 0 <a≤1, 0≤ b<1 and (a+b)=1; 0 <(c+d) ≤ 0.1; 0 <e ≤ 2 and 0 ≤ f ≤ 2. Catalytic composition can be used in acetic acid production and in combined acetic acid and/or vinyl acetate production. Examples are given for using catalysts such as and Mo1,00Re0,25Nb0,12Sb0,08Ag0,014Oy. Method involves bringing gaseous mixture into contact with oxygen- containing gas at elevated temperature until 75% oxygen consumption is attained.
