FIELD: organic chemistry, food industry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a novel mixed crystal containing N-[N- (3,3-dimethylbutyl)-L-α-aspartyl] -L-phenylalanine methyl ester that can be used as a sweetening agent showing the sweetness quality and homogeneous structure. The invention proposes also a method of preparing the mixed crystal involving crystallization of solution comprising N-[N-(3,3-dimethyl- -butyl)-L-α- aspartyl]-L-phenylalanine methyl ester and aspartam and a sweetening agent containing the mixed crystal and a carrier for sweetening agents.
