FIELD: organic chemistry, biochemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to novel ketobenzamides of the formula (I) where R1 means phenyl, naphthyl, quinolyl, pyridyl, quinazolyl, quinoxalyl, benzothienyl, isoquinoline, tetrahydroisoquinoline or tetrahydroquinoline that can be both unsubstituted and substituted; R2 means hydrogen atom or alkyl; R3 means alkyl that can carry phenyl ring; X means a bond, -(CH2)m, -(CH2)m-O-(CH2)0-, -(CH2)n-S-(CH2)m-, -CH= CH-, -CO-CH= CH-, ; R4 means groups OR6, NR7R8;; n is a number from 0 to 2. Compounds of the formula (I) show an inhibitory activity and therefore they are inhibitors of cysteine proteases, in part for example, calpain I and II and cathepsins B and L. EFFECT: valuable biochemical properties. 3 cl, 1 tbl, 41 ex
