FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: hardener, in particular, silicon-free hardener is used for simultaneous killing, refining, modifying and alloying (microalloying) of steel, alloys and cast iron. According to first version, hardener comprises calcium, rare-earth metals, aluminum and nickel, and further comprises iron, with said components being used in the following ratio, wt%: calcium 3-15; rare-earth metals 10-25; aluminum 5-25; iron 6-20; nickel the balance. According to other five versions, hardener comprises calcium, rare- earth metal, aluminum and nickel, and further comprises titanium, vanadium, niobium, yttrium or boron, and further comprises iron in an amount of 6-20 wt%. Addition of iron introduced into hardener composition results in formation of lighter phases causing reduction of hardener melting and dissolution temperature on the whole, and also provides for uniform distribution and more complete assimilation of hardener components in liquid metal.
