FIELD: electrical engineering, namely electric arc furnaces for melting steels and alloys. SUBSTANCE: furnace includes bath, three-phase power transformer, three electrodes for melting metal. Working portions of said electrodes are arranged in cavity of furnace. Electrodes are connected to respective phases of secondary winding of transformer. Furnace is provided with source of direct electric current and three-phase group of inductance. There is bottom conductor in bath. One pole of additional source of direct current is connected to said bottom conductor in order to be connected with electrically conductive part of burden in bath; its other pole is connected to zero point of power transformer and(or) to zero points of three-phase group of inductance in order to provide simultaneous connection (through electric arcs) of bottom conductor, power transformer and furnace bath. EFFECT: accelerated melting of burden due to uniform supply of energy to bath, lowered specific consumption of electric energy for melting, free space under crown of furnace for heating up burden by means of exhaust gas. 4 dwg
