FIELD: metallurgy; electric arc melting furnaces with bay window tapping of metal. SUBSTANCE: proposed furnace has three main electrodes which are located in working space of furnace and are connected to secondary windings of power transformer in phase-by-phase manner and are interconnected by star connection. Furnace is provided with fourth auxiliary electrode which is located above tap hole of bay window and is connected to DC or AC source for preheating molten metal by electric arc during melting; other pole of this source is connected with zero point of secondary windings of power transformer. EFFECT: possibility of locally compensating for loss of heat in molten metal without overheating of entire melt; reduced power requirements; reduced consumption of refractory materials. 6 cl, 5 dwg
