FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: method involves examining fluids containing blood. First, initial relative density of patient blood is determined before making surgical intervention and relative density of different dilutions of this blood with 0.9% NaCl solution. Drainage fluid volume discharged within the day is determined after the operation. Its relative density and blood percent contained in it is determined. Then, postoperative blood loss discharged with drainage is calculated by means of formula V_k = (V_d/100)•C_%, where V<Mv >k is blood loss with drainage fluid, ml/day, V<Mv >d is the drainage fluid volume, ml/day, C% is the percent blood contents derived from relative density values in the drainage fluid discharged, ml/day.
