FIELD: nuclear industry; decanning spent fuel elements prior to their recovery. SUBSTANCE: method implies use of two disks with involute-shaped cutting edge rotating at equal angular velocity and positioned so that involute projections on one disk are aligned with involute depressions on other one. During rotation each projection of one of cutting disks runs into fuel element can and impresses it in depression of other cutting disk. Then it cuts fuel element can is, intrudes like V-piece in core, and crushes the latter for its next recovery. EFFECT: enhanced service life of cutting equipment; integration of cutting and crushing procedures. 1 dwg
