METHOD OF DECLADDING OF FUEL ELEMENTS AND DEVICE FOR ITS IMPLEMENTATION Russian patent published in 2018 - IPC G21C19/36

Abstract RU 2658295 C1

FIELD: physics, nuclear physics.

SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to nuclear engineering, in particular to the reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel (SNF). Method of uncovering the fuel elements (fuel rods) of the spent fuel assembly includes cutting the shell with discs (rollers). Fuel rod is installed in the gap between the rolling and supporting rollers and the fuel rod is rotated, the rolling roller is equipped with a notching disc, it is moved by the drive to the fuel element and rolling a groove in the cladding of the fuel element with its incision, and then striking the fuel element fragment below the incised groove, the fuel element fragment is cut off along the notched section, that is sent to a high-temperature oxidation treatment. There is also a device for uncovering fuel elements.

EFFECT: group of inventions allows to cut fuel rods into fragments of a given length with minimal collapsing of the shell edges for efficient destruction of fuel pellets to a finely dispersed state and the fuel and shells separation under high-temperature oxidation treatment.
