FIELD: electrolytic engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for sorption isolation of copper ions from aqueous and water-organic electrolytes by the aid of water- swelling cellulose-containing polymers, in particular to isolating copper ions from solutions of individual and mixed electrolytes, and can be applied in regeneration of industrial-origin waters containing copper and other metal ions. Method is based on recovering copper ions using accessible and relatively inexpensive cellulose materials. Process is carried out by bringing solution to be purified into contact with water-swelling hydroxyethylcellulose taken in amount 5-20 g/l at room temperature, contact time is 5-30 min. According to invention, isopropyl alcohol in amount 1.5-5 mole/l is preliminarily added to solution at pH 4-7. EFFECT: reduced sorption process time and decreased residual copper level in solution. 1 tbl, 3 ex
