FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: bis(4-hydroxyphenyl)alkanes are prepared via heterogeneous catalytic reaction of aromatic hydroxylic compounds with ketones on cation-exchange resin with cocatalyst at elevated temperature in at least two in-series connected reactors. Reactors are run at temperatures raised as reaction progresses under adiabatic conditions involving cooling reaction mixture between reactors. Between the start and end of reactor series, ascending temperature gradient from 35 C to 85 C is maintained. Distribution of the total amount of ketone in reactors is realized such that the less amount loaded into reactor, the higher temperature in this reactor. Aromatic hydroxylic compounds utilized are those selected from group including phenol, C1-C6-alkylphenols, C5-C5-cycloalkylphenols, chlorophenol, and o- phenylphenol.
