SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing polycarbonate used as an optical data medium or for making light-diffusing glass. The method involves melt re-esterification of a dihydroxyaryl compound with a diarylcarbonate in the presence of a catalyst. Before the last reaction step, an inhibitor is added to the melt and during or after the last reaction step, an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid or derivative thereof is added.
EFFECT: polycarbonate obtained using said method has low electrostatic charge.
