FIELD: repairs and hardening of parts of metallurgical and machine-building and other equipment. SUBSTANCE: method includes application of additive to part surface, heating of additive and place to be hardened. Additive is used in the form of mixture of graphite and/or carbon black and carbon-silicon-aluminum- containing used contact mass of chemical production. Content of graphite and/or carbon-black in mixture is not less than 1% of mixture weight. Used contact mass of chemical production may have the following composition, wt. %: copper, 0.10-10.00; iron, 0.10-8.00; aluminum, 0.05-7.00; titanium, 0.01-5.00; carbon, 0.10-10.0; silicon, the balance. Heating is carried out at temperature not below 700 C with currents of high or industrial frequency, by electrical arc, plasma, gas burners. Technical result consists in that use of additive for parts hardening in the form of mixture of used contact mass and graphite and/or carbon black ensures larger depth and high hardness of hardened layer, reduction of expenses for parts hardening, utilization of wastes of chemical and metallurgical production.
