FIELD: medicine, orthopedics, traumatology. SUBSTANCE: ultrasound detection of cystic size is carried out. It is obtained a picture of dorsal surface of a knee joint with a distal femoral part and proximal tibial part. Maximal cystic size, wall thickness, the type of content and period of structural organization due to longitudinal scanning are determined. A pickup unit is installed at the angle of 45 deg. to a limb's axis at inclination of 15-20 deg. caudally. It is estimated the availability of cystic isthmus due to cross-sectional scanning. A pickup unit is installed at the angle of 70-80 deg. to a limb's longitudinal axis at inclination of 15-20 deg. cranially. The method provides higher objectivity of the information obtained.
