FIELD: electrical communications; reducing redundancy of data transmitted. SUBSTANCE: proposed method may be used for transmitting voice messages over digital channels at a speed of up to 4 kbyte/s and for coding voice signal shape or its direct coding/decoding, and also enables telephone communications over low-speed digital communication channels. Method involves sampling of continuous voice signal, quantizing of digital readings, formation of quantized voice-signal readings, quantizing of plurality of one and zero items in the form of rectangular matrices, transmission of plurality of one and zero items over communication channel, its reception from communication channel, formation of recovered voice signal matrix, and conversion of recovered voice signal reading matrix into continuous voice signal. As during retrieval of optimal rectangular matrices incomplete search for all probable values of matrix columns and lines is made, limitations may be imposed on structure of rectangular matrices and on optimization process for said matrices to reduce amount of information that should be further transmitted over communication channels.
