FIELD: powder metallurgy, namely manufacture of high purity powders of vanadium of compact metal. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of activation of compact vanadium in vacuum; hydrogenising it at cooling in hydrogen atmosphere for forming vanadium hydride; disintegrating vanadium hydride to powder; dehydrogenating powder. According to invention compact vanadium is activated at heating it until 600-800 C. Vanadium is hydrogenised at temperature 50-200 C. Powder of vanadium hydride is dehydrogenises at heating it until 650-800 C while removing hydrogen and soaking at such temperature until residual pressure in range 0.05-0.50 mm Hg. Compacted vanadium is heated in vacuum until 200-300 C; then heating is realized in hydrogen atmosphere produced by thermic dissociation of titanium hydride transformed to unsaturated state. Unsaturated titanium hydride is used for absorption of hydrogen separated at dehydrogenization of powder of vanadium hydride.
