FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: citronellol is synthesized via hydroalumination of dihydromircene followed by oxidation and hydrolysis of alumino-derivative of dihydromircene. The latter is prepared using mechanical alloys preliminarily prepared by mechanochemical activation of aluminum with metal additive on planetary mill in hydrogen atmosphere at hydrogen pressure no lower than 30 atm and temperature at least 60 C, said additive being usually titanium, nickel, copper, or their mixture in amounts from 1 to 10 wt.%. Hydroalumination of dihydromircene is also be performed either by aluminum or by its mechanical alloy under mechanochemical activation conditions on planetary mill. As a rule, mechanical alloys are mechanical aluminum alloys prepared by mechanochemical activation on planetary mill of metallic aluminum with titanium, nickel, and copper, whose content in mixture varies between 1 and 10 wt.%.
