FIELD: converter engineering; heavy-current static converters. SUBSTANCE: method for protecting static converters incorporating thyristors and series-connected fuses in parallel circuits includes disabling of control pulses at moment of completion of thyristor switching next to occurrence of short circuit followed by shorting-out of converter output, limiting of short-circuit current, and repeated supply of control pulses. Device implementing proposed algorithm uses additional fuse as current-limiting member, and converter output is shorted out by means of thyristor ground switch. EFFECT: preventing development of short circuits due to fast disconnection of short-circuit current. 2 cl, 3 dwg
