FIELD: cigarette industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves obtaining nicotine component for modifying tobacco material by preparing aqueous solution containing nicotine; concentrating said solution to predetermined nicotine concentration; applying obtained nicotine component onto tobacco material for changing ratio of nicotine, resin and carbon monoxide in smoke released during smoking. Nicotine component is used in the form of nicotine concentrate free from resin and containing 17.5-50% of nicotine. Concentrate is uniformly applied onto basic tobacco material in an amount determined by actual content of nicotine in basic tobacco material and in nicotine concentrate and by actual resin and nicotine amount ratio in smoke of basic tobacco material provided that prepared composition has resin to nicotine ratio in smoke within the range of 5.0-10.0. Method allows smoking composition containing predetermined amount of nicotine component to be produced and preferable ratio of nicotine, resin and carbon monoxide in smoke released during smoking of cigarette to be provided.
