FIELD: mass- spectrometer analyses. SUBSTANCE: ions to be analyzed are separated according to mass-to-charge ratio during their flight in high-frequency field; during their flight ions at least twice pass through field areas differing in DC component value and/or high-frequency component, and/or frequency, and/or on/off time ratio, and/or supply voltage pulse shape, and/or geometry of field-forming electrode system so that effective point of analyzed ions on Hall equation solution stability diagram pass over one of coordinates from one stability-area boundary to other. Device implementing this method has set of parallel rods forming quadruple capacitor; novelty is that at least once distance between opposing plates of capacitor varies lengthwise in steps.
