FIELD: inorganic and analytical chemistry. SUBSTANCE: 2 ml of 2 M KBr solution, 5 ml of 0.1 M freshly prepared potassium persulfate solution, 10 ml phosphate buffer solution with pH 6-7 and 4 ml of 0.0001 M Bengal pink solution as a sensitizing agent are placed into amperometric cell. Also, two platinum microelectrodes are placed in solution and potential difference 0.5 V is supplied followed by effect by incandescent lamp light on solution at constant stirring rate. Bromine concentration in solution is determined by current value alternation. Invention allows to obtain bromine in weak acid and neutral solutions and can be used in analysis of materials.
