FIELD: checking characteristics of fast and other reactors and their fuel elements where in-service access to core is provided. SUBSTANCE: proposed neutron-activation method includes disposition of activation detector incorporating nuclides on one of chemical elements forming several activation channels in reactor core and recording of reactor induced activity. Said monodetector records energy of thermal and fast neutrons. Monodetector induced activity is recorded within 5-12 min since moment of its extraction from reactor on two targets simultaneously over two independent channels including gamma-quanta from desired short-living nuclides. Provision is found to use 27Al, 59Co, or common salt as activation monodetector. Beryllium or deuterium may be used as target material. EFFECT: enhanced speed, measurement accuracy, and reliability, facilitated procedure, enlarged functional capabilities. 2 cl, 1 dwg, 1 tbl
