FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to piston internal combustion engines with scavengeable antechambers. According to proposed invention, space is located between combustion chamber and antechamber which is connected with channel to feed rich mixture by auxiliary intake valve. Spark plug is installed in said space. Combustion chamber can be provided with displacer accommodating space volume is 0.75-1.5 of antechamber volume. Said volume is 0,03 - 0,05 of compression volume at summary area of through sections of nozzle channels equal to 3-4 sq. mm per 1 cu. mm of antechamber volume. According to proposed method of operation, enriched mixture zone is formed in separate space where enriched mixture is ignited at end of compression, and antechamber mixture is ignition by enriched mixture combustion products getting into antechamber through nozzle channels. In case of increase of cylinder charge scavenging of antechamber is increased and supply of rich mixture into space is increased also. At moment of ignition enriched mixture with excess air coefficient of α = 0,8-1,0 is formed in space, and antechamber mixture with excess air coefficient of α = 0,5-0,7 is formed in antechamber. Invention provides economy of fuel and reduces harmful substances in exhaust gases by improving efficiency of operation of internal combustion engine on lean mixtures.
