FIELD: metallurgy, namely processes for making thick steel sheets, possibly hot rolling of strips in reversing rolling mills. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of casting slabs; heating them; performing multipass reversing rolling at first in rough and then in finish rolling stand; heating slabs until temperature 1150-1200 C; rolling billets in finish stand at total reduction value no less than 70% and terminating rolling in finish stand at temperature no more than 820 C; before rolling in finish stand performing interim cooling of rolled piece until temperature 920-980 C. Billet is rolled in rough rolling stand at reduction value for one pass no less than 8%. Slabs are cast of steel containing, mas.%: carbon, 0.003-0.14; silicon, 0.15-0.70; manganese, 0.50-1.65; chrome, not more 0.3; nickel, not more 0.3; copper, not more 0.3; aluminium, 0.02 -0.05; titanium, 0.005- 0.03; vanadium, 0.02-0.14; niobium, 0.015-0.060; molibdenum, not more 0.15; calcium, 0.0003-0.05; iron and additives, the balance.
