FIELD: railroad transport, namely installations for strengthening wheel rims and rail heads. SUBSTANCE: strengthened wheel is rigidly fixed by means of fixing members to struts of frame. Reservoir is filled (by operators) with liquid cooling agent. Electric power is supplied to drive motor, to laser, scanning unit and electric heater. Torque through shaft and gear wheel is transmitted to rigidly fixed gear wheel. In the result platform begins to move around wheel on slides. Simultaneously laser generates laser beam performing reciprocation motion (along line normal relative to vector of wheel rotation speed on rolling surface of rail by action of scanning unit. Laser beam spot on rolling surface of rail is followed by "spot" of cooling agent fed through pipeline and nozzle. Pressure of cooling agent is realized due to its increased evaporation capability by action of electric heater. Sharp temperature drop in strengthened layer causes formation of "vitrous" - non-crystalline metal having enhanced strength characteristics. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of installation due to formation of non-crystalline metal layer with increased strength properties. 1 dwg
