FIELD: non- ferrous metallurgy; methods of production of sponge titanium by magnesium-reduced titanium tetrachloride. SUBSTANCE: method includes installation of reducing apparatus with the use of retort with false bottom, placing metal sheet in apparatus and lowering this sheet to false bottom, heating the apparatus, loading magnesium and titanium tetrachloride at periodic drainage of molten magnesium chloride from apparatus, vacuum separation and extraction of sponge titanium block from retort returning the metal sheet to reducing process. Metal sheet is placed for free motion in mounting the apparatus on solid condensate; in the course of melting the condensate, sheet is lowered to false bottom in heating the apparatus.
