FIELD: non-ferrous metallurgy; methods of production of sponge titanium by reducing titanium tetrachloride by magnesium and cleaning it by thermovacuum separation. SUBSTANCE: method includes evacuation of apparatus, heating it to admixture sublimation temperature, holding it at high temperature and cooling the apparatus at definite rate with heating furnace switched off at continuous evacuation. Heaters are switched off when minimum power of center and lower zones of heating is obtained; further sublimation of admixtures is effected due to heat given off by heated sponge titanium block at simultaneous cooling of apparatus at rate of 3-6 deg. per minute. EFFECT: reduced power requirements. 1 ex
