FIELD: forestry. SUBSTANCE: lumbering machine has self-propelled chassis with operator's cabin in front part of chassis and processing equipment including rotary column with manipulator and working head casing mounted through directing mechanism on free end of manipulator and provided with gripping-cutting levers, and accumulator positioned behind operator's cabin in rear part of chassis. Rotary column is mounted on chassis in front of operator's cabin. Axis of rotation of column is positioned in longitudinal-vertical plane of symmetry of chassis or in plane parallel therewith at an acute angle of "α" to plane extending perpendicular thereto. Axis of rotation of column is arranged at right angle to longitudinal axis of manipulator part proximate thereto. Acute angle "α" between vertical plane and axis of rotation of column is about 45 deg. Such construction may be embodied in different versions of self-propelled chassis drive systems, such as caterpillar-excavator, caterpillar and wheeled types. Lumbering machine is used for continuous or selective forest cutting. EFFECT: enhanced reliability in operation provided due to reduced load applied from cut tree to basic process units of machine. 11 cl, 6 dwg
