FIELD: industrial organic synthesis. SUBSTANCE: in Fischer-Tropsch synthesis of alcohols and olefins from carbon monoxide and hydrogen, catalytic composition includes higher alcohol-synthesis catalyst, at least one metal selected from magnesium and manganese, and optionally alkali or alkali-earth metal, said catalyst being possibly prepared by coprecipitation of its essential metallic constituents in the form of oxalates. Advantageously, preparation pf catalyst involves preparation of solution comprising cobalt salt, copper salt, and salt of at least one metal selected from magnesium and manganese and coprecipitation of metals from solution in the form of oxalates by adding oxalates ions. Catalytic composition includes cobalt, copper, and manganese at atomic ratio Co/Cu/Mn within a range of 1:(1-10): (0.1-5) or includes cobalt, copper, and magnesium at atomic ratio Co/Cu/Mg within a range of 1:(1-10):(0.1-10). Hydrogen and carbon monoxide are used at molar ratio (1-3):1. Process is conducted at 200-350 C, pressure 10-150 bar, volumetric starting material flow rate 200 to 9000 h-1.
