FIELD: mechanical engineering; manufacture of friction disks. SUBSTANCE: friction article has composite friction member whose friction surface is provided with grooves which have no planes parallel to flat friction surface or surfaces equidistant relative to nonplanar friction surface. Total area of grooves is about 33% of area of working surface of friction member and depth of grooves is about 26% of working thickness of member. Proposed method enhances stability of friction characteristics due to reduction of abrupt change in these characteristics caused by wear of article by reduction of abrupt rise of mutual overlapping coefficient.
