FIELD: instrumentation engineering; adaptive recording of digital data on magnetic or optical medium. SUBSTANCE: binary signal of input data sequence are allocated in code groups and the latter are allocated in blocks; data swing is shaped in two levels of record signals along with time spaces between swings in compliance with code groups and their values; marker swings are shaped; second marker swings and spaces are disposed in block record signals. Two flag bits are generated for each pair of code groups, values of one of them are used to mark main and additional code groups of pair and values of other one, to mark occurrence and connection of sub-spaces corresponding to bit values of additional code group of pair or to space corresponding to main group of pair; additional code groups of pairs are generated from respective flag bits, then flag bits and additional code groups are generated for them. Triple swings of record signals are shaped within spaces corresponding to mentioned code groups in two levels and sub-spaces are shaped between these swings, their length being dependent on values of respective additional data bits. EFFECT: enhanced packing density of digital data in record signals of code-group blocks. 2 dwg
