FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to technology of synthesis of cellulose ethers. Carboxymethylcellulose sodium salt is prepared by activation of cellulose with alkali aqueous solution, etherification with monochloro- acetic acid or its salt and drying. In activation process substances are added to cellulose in the amount from 0.05 to 1 g per 1 kg of cellulose and these substance are taken among group including: neonol as mixture of monoalkylphenol polyethylene glycol esters; OP-10 as mixture of mono- and dialkylphenol polyethylene glycol esters; syntanol as mixture of higher alcohol polyethylene glycol esters; proxanol as mixture of higher alcohol polyethylene- and polypropylene glycol esters; oxal as mixture of hydroxy- and alkoxy-derivatives of dioxane; DISAFEN as mixture of monoalkylphenol polyethylene glycol esters and hydroxy- and alkoxy-derivatives of dioxane; polyethylene glycol of average molecular mass 1200 Da; polypropylene glycol with average molecular mass 1200 Da.
