FIELD: concentration of minerals; floatation of ores, mainly copper-nickel ores on base of cellulose and starch derivatives which are soluble in water forming colloidal solutions. SUBSTANCE: proposed reagent-depressor is product of joint carboxymethylation of cellulose and starch consisting of sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose at substitution degree of 0.45-0.55 (99-50 parts by mass) and sodium salt of carboxymethyl starch at substitution degree of 0.01-0.08 (1-50 parts by mass). Proposed method includes mercerization of cellulose by aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide at intensive mixing , joint carboxymethylation of cellulose and starch and drying. Mercerization of cellulose by aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is performed in succession for an hour at 35-60 C and for an hour at 25-35 C. Used as carboxymethylizing agent is sodium salt of monochloroacetic acid; mixing is continued for 20-40 minutes after which starch is introduced at the following cellulose to starch ratio, parts by mass: (1-50): (99-50) and mixing is again continued for 20-40 minutes; then reaction mixture is unloaded into vacuum drier and is kept there for 40 min to 2 h at temperature of 80 C.
