FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in pistons of automobile internal combustion engines piston crown is provided with insert made of carcass composite material such as aluminium alloy-high melting carbide or aluminium - high melting carbide with volume content of high-melting carbide from 40 to 75 %. Titanium carbide or boron carbide are used as high melting carbide in carcass composite material. In one of design versions, composition of alloy in composite material may differ from composition of alloy from which other parts of piston are made, including piston skirt. Invention provides description of method of manufacture of such piston. Invention is aimed at creating pistons for internal combustion engines whose crown features high heat resistance and hardness at high temperatures. EFFECT: provision of possibility of uprating of engines with such pistons. 7 cl, 1 tbl
