FIELD: medical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves determining relationship binding the values of respiratory volume and plateau pressure. Respiration frequency is to be set at 20 respirations per min. Peak flow is set with patient body mass taken into account: 15 l/min when body mass is less than 15 kg; 20 l/min when body mass is between 15 and 20 kg, 25 l/min when body mass is between 20 and 30 kg, 30 l/min when body mass is greater than 30 kg. Respiration volume is found distinguished by peak pressure in the respiratory tract of 20 mbar.
