METHOD OF ISOLATION OF BETULINOL Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: chemical technology, natural products. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of isolation of biologically active substances from wood waste, namely to method of isolation of betulinol from external layer of birch bark (birch bark). Method of isolation of betulinol involves extraction of milled birch bark of fraction 0.5-5.0 mm with aliphatic hydrocarbons. Extraction is carried out with hexane for 3- 5 h and extract is treated with equal volume of water. An aqueous layer is separated and precipitate formed from hexane is filtered off. Hexane is removed completely or used repeatedly. Method ensures, in contrast to known, to obtain pure betulinol with high yield without additional purification that can be used for carrying out reactions of formation of glycosides and betulinic acid and to enhance fullness of extraction of total amount of triterpene compounds where betulinol is the main component.
