FIELD: petroleum processing and petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for cooling, molding, and packing melts of materials capable of solidifying when cooled, in particular of dead oils (bitumens). Method comprises forced multistep cooling of dead oil melt in special- type apparatuses and extruders at continuous stirring and movement. Further, living cross-section of dead oil melt is formed by means of die and excess pressure created in the last cooling step followed by drawing and water sprinkling. Solidified dead oil is briquetted and packed into thermocontractable low-melting polyethylene containers. Installation includes successively interconnected service tank, first cooling step extruder, at least three primary cooling vessels, second and third cooling step extruders. Primary cooling vessels contain mechanical stirrers in heat-exchange housing. Third cooling step extruder is connected to die head. Installation also has drawing mechanism with device for sprinkling water with finely divided talc, cutting device, and packing machine. EFFECT: preserved homogenous state over all cooling time and prevented liquation non-homogeneity and adhesion during cooling period. 17 cl, 1 dwg
