FIELD: optics. SUBSTANCE: the optical isolator has a magnetic system and a polarizer, magnetooptical rotator and an analyzer successively arranged in the optical axis. The magnetic system is made in the form of a tubular - shaped permanent magnet with axial magnetization, in whose hole the magnetooptical rotator is positioned. In addition the isolator has a converter of the round aperture of the optical beam to a circular aperture located in the optical axis between the magnetooptical rotator and analyzer. The magnetooptical rotator may have a tubular shape. The converters of the round aperture to a circular one and of the circular aperture to a round one may have mirrors in the form of a cone and truncated cone, having, respectively, outer and inner reflecting surfaces.
