FIELD: methods and devices designed for increase of wear resistance of large radius internal side surface of rail head on curved sections of active railway track. SUBSTANCE: method includes heating of internal side surface of rail head with electron beam moved along rail to be hardened by heating. In so doing, moving electron beam is focused and scanned in two mutually orthogonal directions with provided orthogonality of electron beam focusing, provision is made for moving electron beam to simultaneously heat area 3-5 mm in diameter, speed of electron beam scanning along rail and in transverse direction is selected so that it exceeds the speed of electron beam moving along rail, at least, by a factor of 100. Device for method embodiment is mounted on rail transport facility and provided with outlet appliance for supply of electron beam from accelerator is made in form of two inclined channels directed to internal side surfaces of rail heads. Switch for alternate supply of electron beam to one of channels is installed in point of channels junction. Channels are made with bellows inserts with possible lifting of channel ends and their holding in traveling position together with wheels secured to channel ends for their holding in heat hardening in definite position relative to rail heads. Installed on channel ends are devices for focusing and scanning of electron beam along rail and in transverse direction, invention provides for negligent deformation after quenching, and layer hardened by heat treatment has stable physical properties which are preserved at any permissible wear of external rail. EFFECT: higher efficiency of method and device. 4 cl, 3 dwg
