FIELD: optics; electronics.
SUBSTANCE: object to be inspected is irradiated by quick neutron ray bundle, which neutrons are produced by quick neutron source, as well as by bundle of continuous X-ray radiation, which rays are produced by source of continuous spectral X-ray radiation. Intensity of passed X-ray radiation and intensity of passed neutrons is measured directly by means of X-ray detector array and neutron detector array correspondingly and materials/matters of object to be inspected are identified by means of curves of Z-dependences formed by differences in coefficient of attenuation between neutron ray and X-ray, both passed through different material of object to be inspected.
EFFECT: increased penetration ability; higher spatial resolution; better quality of image during inspection of containers or volumetric objects.
