FIELD: nuclear engineering; operating mechanisms for control rods of reactor control and protection systems. SUBSTANCE: control gear that functions to ensure control of each step of rod during its displacement which is most essential in diagnosing its condition has shunt position indicators made in the form of two similar coils with magnetic cores and two windings positioned in immediate proximity of each other, planes of winding turns being disposed unidirectionally with shunt displacement. Length of one coil with magnetic core is equal to or greater than one fourth of full operating travel of rod; shunt length equals double length of coil with magnetic core.
