FIELD: geology. SUBSTANCE: invention is related to establishment of orientation of sensitivity axes of geophones relative to direction to excitation point when conducting vertical seismic profiling. According to method projections of vector of angular velocity of rotation of the Earth and of vector of free fall acceleration on axis of instrument coordinate system formed by trihedral of sensitivity axes of geophones are measured. Angular position of instrument coordinate system with reference to horizontal coordinate system oriented geographically is computed. Geographic azimuths of projections of sensitivity axes of geophones are determined from which values known value of geographic azimuth of excitation point is subtracted. Borehole tool of facility includes unit of three geophones with mutually orthogonal sensitivity axes, operation condition unit, multicomponent accelerometer and gyroscopic meter of angular velocity. Sensitivity axes of accelerometer and meter of angular velocity coincide in direction with proper axes of geophones. Outputs of geophones, accelerometer and meter of angular velocity are connected by cable communication channel to inputs of ground unit which incorporates computer. Unit for input of constants ensuring entry of parameters characterizing conditions of investigation performance is coupled to ground unit. Operation condition unit controlling operation of accelerometer and meter of angular velocity is connected to output of ground unit.
