FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: proposed abrasive comprises glassy binding substrate wherein aluminium oxide abrasive particles are distributed. Said glass binder features solidification temperature of not less than 1000°C. Aluminium oxide abrasive particles contain polycrystalline alpha-aluminium oxide with fine microcrystalline structure with mean size of domains not exceeding 500 nm. Aluminium oxide abrasive particles incorporate also pinning-agents representing a phase dispersed in polycrystalline alpha-aluminium oxide. Alpha-aluminium oxide abrasive particles are produced by thermal treatment of alpha-aluminium oxide precursor containing pinning agent at 1350°C. Abrasive particles are mixed with glassy substrate to form the workpiece. The latter is subjected to thermal treatment at solidification temperature not less than 1000°C.
EFFECT: higher hardness of abrasive and rust resistance.
