FIELD: petrochemical processes. SUBSTANCE: gasoline fraction boiling below 200 C and containing above 5 wt % benzene is brought into contact with catalyst containing pentasil-group zeolite under conditions favoring formation of aromatic hydrocarbons from aliphatic components of feedstock, after which at least part of benzene is converted to give final product. In another embodiment of invention, gasoline feedstock is subjected to catalytic reforming to give catalyzate, from which hydrogen-containing gas is separated to give unstable reforming product further separated into high-antiknock gasoline and stabilization gas. From the former, gasoline fraction is isolated with more that 5% benzene and aliphatic hydrocarbons. This fraction is subjected to catalytic conversion as described above to yield product, which is combined with unstable reforming product. Method may also contain conversion of at least a part of stabilization gas under conditions favoring formation of aromatic hydrocarbons on a catalyst active in dehydrocyclooligomerization of C3-C4-hydrocarbons to yield product containing aromatic hydrocarbons.
