METHOD FOR TREATING MALIGNANT CEREBRAL TUMORS BY APPLYING PHOTODYNAMIC LASER THERAPY Russian patent published in 2003 - IPC

FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: the present innovation deals with improving clinical results of therapy in patients with malignant cerebral tumors of different localization. One should carry out obligatory locoregional supply of photosensitizer (PS) into liquor cerebral spaces twice in 24 h 10- 12 d after the onset of operation (tumor removal). In 2 h after the second PS introduction one should perform two successive seances of percutaneous transcranial photodynamic laser therapy (PDT) of removed tumor bottom due to scanning irradiation with defocused laser beam at 675 nm wave length and 0.15-0.20 W power for 20 min. Moreover, before carrying out PDT one should evacuate about 15-20 ml liquor (from which 2-4 ml of removed liquor is tested spectroscopically and chromatographically to register PS in liquor and detect its concentration) to prevent intracranial hypertension. Seances of percutaneous PDT are conducted at 24-h-long interval. The suggested method enables to improve therapeutic results due to preventing relapses in area of removed tumor.
