FIELD: liquid crystals. SUBSTANCE: method consists in consecutively condensing, in vacuum, vapors of p- xylylene monomer, liquid crystal, and once more p-xylylene monomer on a cooled surface followed by polymerization at temperature up to 130K or induced by UV radiation, said liquid crystal vapors being condensed jointly with vapors of transition or non-transition I-IV group metals at partial pressure of metal 10-4-10-2 mm Hg. Thus obtained films show high stability and do not change their characteristics over several months period. Content of metal in liquid crystal may vary from 0.1 to 10 wt %. With film constituted by encapsulated silver/liquid crystal composition, as example, a high sensitivity to electric field effect compared to customary metal-free film is indicated.
