FIELD: metallurgy; designing air heaters for blast furnaces. SUBSTANCE: proposed air heater has casing provided with lining, packing and dome with pre-chamber located in its upper portion coaxially with it; pre-chamber is provided with casing and lining with independent support on casing. Hot blast pipe union is located above packing at distance no less than diameter of its flow section. Gas and air passages made in lateral vertical wall of pre-chamber lining are communicated with inner collectors and pipe unions supplying gas and air. Axes of upper passages from lower collector are directed to axis of pre-chamber and are shifted upward from horizontal plane through angle of 30 deg. and axes of remaining passages are located in horizontal plane at angle of 15-30 deg. to radii passing through centers of their outlet holes. Side vertical wall of pre-chamber is divided into two parts by vertical seam; inner part is used as support for main brickwork of prechamber dome. Partition dividing gas and air collectors is supported by walls of brickwork adjoining collectors on side of casing and on side of lateral vertical wall.
