FIELD: analytical methods. SUBSTANCE: iron bound into organoiron complexes in downhole and surface waters. Total content of iron is first determined in water sample, after which, in another water sample, pH 4-5 is created, is added to chloroform-to-water no higher than 1:5, the total is vigorously stirred and allowed to stand until separation into three layers: water, film containing organoiron complex, and chloroform. In upper aqueous layer, content of iron is determined and then, from the difference of iron contents in the first sample and in upper aqueous layer of the second sample, content of iron bound in organoiron complexes is found.
