Plurality of representation peak coordinates is obtained in scaled curvature space by smoothing down object outline at plurality of steps starting from arbitrary point on outline and ordering representation peak coordinates in scaled curvature space basing on peak height of peak coordinates using peak height value corresponding to smoothing parameter. Representation of object scaled curvature space is obtained in saved patterns for searching object on motionless pattern or series of patterns, representation of request scaled curvature space is compared with each representation of scaled curvature space for saved object, and at least one result corresponding to pattern incorporating object whose comparison shows degree of identity between request and this object is chosen and displayed.
